Come learn how to make a drawstring backpack! Below is the list of supplies that attendees will need to bring to the class in order to make a backpack:
Supplies:
- 2 - 3 1/2”H x 15”W Exterior Bottom (front and back)
- 2 - 14”H x 15”W Exterior Top (front and back)
- 2 - 3 1/4” H x 14 1/4”W Drawstring panels
- 2 - 16 1/2”H x 15”W Lining (front and back)
- 2 - 2” x 3” Loop pieces (same as exterior bottom)
- 2 - 16 1/2”H x 15” W fusible fleece or fusible interfacing
- 2 - 7”H x 9”W Lining pocket
- 4 yards Paracord (or cotton rope or shoe laces)
Notes: Exterior bottom could be Deco fabric, canvas, or denim.
Exterior top and lining pieces should be 100% quilting cotton. The lining fabric does not have to be the same as the exterior top fabric. The instructor made her drawstring panels the same as the exterior top fabric but these could be made with coordinating fabrics too. We will only be making an interior pocket (no exterior pocket) due to time limitations during class. The instructor made her interior pocket with the same fabric as the lining.
Please have all of your pieces cut prior to class. We’ll need the full 2 hours of class for sewing the backpack.
Please let us know on this registration form if you plan to use one of the library's sewing machines for this class or if you will be bringing your own.
This sewing class is best for adults and teens who have intermediate to advanced sewing skills. The basics of using a sewing machine will not be covered during this class. If you are interested in beginning sewing classes, please reach out to hannah@mfplibrary.org.
