Event Details
Join us for a gathering of the Socrates Café discussion group! This friendly philosophic group meets monthly and is moderated by a community member.
What is Socrates Café? Groups of people around the world meet to engage in philosophical discussions, sharing their ideas and learning from others by respectfully listening and engaging in dialogue. The philosophic topic in question will vary each month.
Why the name Socrates Café? The group is named for the technique of Socrates. The dialectic method. To proceed by back and forth questioning and argumentation. We question our understanding and often, surprisingly, learn something by this process.
The ground rules for engaging in discussion and debate will be shared at the start of the meeting to help provide a welcoming environment and to ensure a productive, respectful, and courteous discussion.
All adults are invited. Just show up and be willing to participate with an open mind. No prerequisites except for an interest in discussion of a range of issues or points of view. We welcome you to join the monthly discussions when your schedule allows, you do not need to be able to attend each meeting in order to be a group member.
