Bring your Clay: Bisque Firing
Do you normally lug all your pieces from home down to the nearest ceramics shop to get them fired and then have to pick them up and lug them all the way back? Well, the library recently received a generously donated kiln, and while not “open for business” we do want to help where we can. So, you can register for a spot in our next bisque firing. Pieces must follow the requirements below and will be loaded by our resident ceramicist.
Requirements
- Pieces must be bone dry (no moisture left in them)
- Only “naked” clay (no glazes or underglaze finishes)
- Pieces can’t be larger than 10” in any dimension
- You must be willing to allow other pieces to be directly next to yours or even placed on top of yours (when appropriate)
- Limited to two submissions a household
- If there is an overwhelming turnout, the library reserves the right to choose both the total number and the items themselves, in accordance with what will “best fit” within the limited space of the kiln.
Please register so that we can plan accordingly, but you do not need to stay for the whole session! You are welcome to arrive anytime between 1:00 - 3:30 pm to drop off your item for firing. Pieces can be dropped off under the awning in the circle drive (just past where the drive-up window is located).
Pieces will be available for pick-up the following week. You will be notified by email when the items are ready for pick up.
Attendees must be a Mammen Family Public Library card holder in order to use makerspace equipment. TexShare and Student Passport cards do not qualify for use of makerspace equipment. Please include your library card number on the registration form below so that we can confirm your registration.
